The transportation system makes living in downtown Kyoto or even on the outskirts comfortable to all residents of the city.  While parking costs deter most people from owning a car, there is an extensive subway, bus and train system that makes every corner the city accessible to everyone.  Bicycle is one of the best ways to get around town.
